Employer Branding

Employer branding films that show the real culture.

Every firm makes the glass-office film. None of them differentiate. We make the one that shows what working there is genuinely like — so the right candidate recognises themselves in it and arrives already convinced.

What is employer branding video?

Employer branding video is content made to show candidates what working at an organisation is genuinely like, rather than what its marketing says. DOT Video Agency produces employer brand films, recruitment videos and accompanying brand photography for Dutch and European organisations competing for senior and graduate talent.

It differs from corporate video in audience and in what it has to survive. Candidates evaluating an employer are unusually alert to anything manufactured, and they are comparing you directly against firms making the same claims in the same visual language.

The short version

Why employer brand films all look the same

Professional services has one failure mode and everybody shares it. Glass-fronted offices. Confident people in expensive suits. A drone shot of the building. Copy about dynamic teams and exciting opportunities. Every firm produces it, and none of it differentiates, because it describes an industry rather than a workplace.

Worse, this audience has sharp instincts for authenticity and strong defences against anything manufactured. The standard format triggers the exact scepticism it exists to overcome.

The good news is that most organisations already have the thing they need. A distinct culture already exists. It is just invisible from outside. That turns the job into documentation rather than construction, which is both cheaper and far more convincing than inventing a personality in post.

When real individuals speak honestly about a real culture, the content earns trust that a polished promotional film never could.

The decision the film rests on

Casting. This is where employer brand work fails, because the people put forward are the ones most comfortable on camera rather than the ones whose experience a candidate would recognise.

Cast for credibility over polish and a firm can finally say something specific about itself rather than something any firm could say. It means including someone quiet. It is that person the candidate remembers.

Losing candidates at final stage?

That is a visibility problem, not a proposition problem. Twenty minutes will tell you which one you have.

What you actually get

We take it from concept through to distribution-ready assets, including the photography, so your careers site stops being a mix of film stills and stock images.

What employer branding video costs

Employer branding video from DOT Video Agency costs €4.500–€25.000. A single hero film with cutdowns sits at the lower end. A film plus employee story series plus a full photography suite sits at the upper end.

What moves it:

  1. Production days. How many people, how many locations.
  2. Whether photography is included. Usually worth it, and cheaper shot alongside than commissioned separately.
  3. Number of employee stories.
  4. Post complexity and cutdown count.
  5. Language versions for international recruitment.

How long it takes

Typically 4–12 weeks from brief to delivery. The scheduling constraint is almost always your people rather than our availability — getting the right individuals into the right rooms on the right days is the part worth planning early.

We handle scheduling directly with your team, and we will send a short briefing note to everyone appearing on camera beforehand. Being filmed is uncomfortable if nobody has told you what to expect.

How it actually works

  1. Twenty-minute call. You talk to Tijmen or Jesper. Not an account manager — there isn’t one. Twenty minutes tells us both whether this fits.
  2. We dig in. Interviews with your team, and your customers where it counts. You get a direction, not a menu of three safe options.
  3. We plan every output at once. Formats blocked at storyboard. 16:9 and 9:16 together. Language variants designed in before the shoot, never bolted on after.
  4. We shoot. Directed by an owner. Small crew, on purpose, so the people in front of the camera behave like themselves.
  5. We finish in-house. Edit, grade, sound, original score. Two defined feedback rounds, so nobody ends up in a revision spiral.
  6. You get the whole system. Not one file. The hero asset plus everything your channels need, in the formats they need.

Employer brand work

Ploum — employer branding for next-generation legal talent

Film and photography were produced as a single identity rather than two commissions — same days, same locations, same light — so the recruitment campaign holds together across a careers page, a job board and a LinkedIn feed. Cutdowns were rethought per platform rather than resized. Concept through distribution, owned end to end.

Questions we get asked

How do you get people comfortable on camera?

Small crew, no script, and a documentary approach. Most discomfort comes from being asked to perform. Interview someone about work they actually do and cut around it, and you get a person rather than a performance. We also brief everyone appearing beforehand so nobody walks in blind.

Who should be in the film?

Not necessarily your most confident people. Cast for credibility — the individuals whose experience a candidate would recognise as their own possible future. On one recruitment film the most compelling person on screen was a reserved associate the firm would never have volunteered.

How long does an employer brand film stay current?

Longer than most expect if it is built on people and work rather than on office fit-out and headcount. Films that show a genuine culture age slowly. Films that show a new building age the moment you move.

Do you produce photography as well?

Yes, and we recommend shooting it alongside. Stills captured on the same days in the same light mean your careers site, job postings and social all read as one identity rather than three separate commissions.

Can the same film work for recruitment and brand?

Often, and it is a good sign when it does. We have had partners start using a recruitment film in client pitches, which was never the brief. Content showing real people doing real work travels further than content built for one audience.

What happens if someone leaves after appearing in the film?

It happens, and it matters less than people expect. If the film is built around several individuals rather than one, losing one does not invalidate it — and a former employee speaking well about a culture is not the liability it feels like. We plan the edit so individual sections can be lifted if you ever need to, and it is worth agreeing usage terms with everyone on camera up front.

Let’s talk about your talent problem

Twenty minutes with the people who would direct the film. Bring the feedback from candidates who said no.
