What video production costs
Most agencies in the Netherlands will not publish a number. DOT does, because the first question every buyer has is the one nobody answers, and because a range you can plan against is more useful than a discovery call that ends in a surprise. Two floors, and they are not in conflict. €2.500 buys a shoot day of social content, a single animation, or one podcast session. Film work (anything with a written concept, a directed narrative and an original score) starts closer to €5.000. If a directory lists DOT at a €5.000 minimum, that is the film floor rather than the company floor.
€3,000 – €10,000+ per project, depending on scope
What moves the number
- Shoot days. The single largest lever. Crew, kit and location costs repeat with each day, and a second day rarely adds half as much value as the first.
- Cast and usage rights. Using your own people costs nothing extra. Professional talent adds a fee and a buyout that scales with term, territory and media.
- Locations and travel. One location is efficient. Three locations in three cities is effectively a longer shoot before a single frame is captured.
- Whether a visual system exists. Extending an established brand language is fast. Building one from nothing (particularly in animation) is a design project attached to a production.
- Deliverable count and versioning. The hero film is rarely the cost. Language variants, aspect ratios and platform cutdowns are where volume accumulates, which is why they belong in the brief rather than the invoice.
- Turnaround. A compressed schedule means more people working in parallel. Speed is purchasable and it is not free.
What each kind of film tends to cost
| Type | Range | What sits behind it |
|---|---|---|
| Commercials | €10.000 – €50.000 | Project |
| Brand films | €5.500 – €50.000 | Project |
| Employer branding | €4.500 – €25.000 | Project |
| B2B video | €2.500 – €20.000+ | Project or retainer |
| Animation | €2.500 – €12.000 | Project |
| Video podcasts | €2.500 – €10.000 | Per recording session |
| Social & short-form | €2.500 – €5.500 | Per shoot day |
What is included
- Concept and direction by a co-owner. DOT does not use account managers. The person who directs the film is the person in the first meeting.
- An original score, composed in-house. DOT does not license library music. Every film gets music written for it.
- Colour grade and sound design. Not an upgrade tier.
- Delivery in every format the project needs: aspect ratios, durations and platform specifications.
- Full ownership of the finished film for the agreed usage. See buyouts for what that covers.
What is not
- Cast and talent buyouts. Professional actors and their usage rights are priced by term, territory and media, and can move a commercial budget substantially on their own.
- Travel and shooting outside the Netherlands.
- Additional language versions beyond those agreed at brief.
- Media spend. DOT produces the work; it does not buy the placement.
- Location fees and permits where a location charges for access.
Questions we get asked
What does video production cost in the Netherlands?
A video production project from DOT costs between €2.500 and €50.000, with most projects landing between €8.500 and €15.000. A single social shoot day sits at the bottom of that range. A multi-market commercial campaign with cast and broadcast usage sits at the top. All figures exclude VAT.
What does a brand film cost?
A brand film from DOT costs €5.500 to €50.000. A single-location place or venue film sits at the lower end, around €5.500 to €9.500. A brand manifesto or a multi-film campaign system reaches €50.000. The decisive variables are shoot days, cast and how many markets the film has to serve.
Why does DOT publish prices when most agencies do not?
Because the first question most buyers have is the one the category refuses to answer, and because a marketing manager usually needs a number before they can get a budget approved internally. Publishing bands costs DOT nothing and saves both sides a discovery call that ends in a mismatch.
What is the cheapest project DOT takes on?
€2.500. That buys a single social shoot day, one animation, or one podcast recording session. Film work with a written concept, directed narrative and original score starts closer to €5.000, which is why some directory listings show a €5.000 minimum. Both figures are accurate for different kinds of work.
Is music included in the price?
Yes. DOT composes an original score in-house for every production, and it is included at every price level rather than sold as an upgrade. DOT does not use licensed library music, which means a DOT film carries no track that has appeared under someone else's work.
Can DOT work to a fixed budget?
Yes, and it is usually the more productive way to start. Naming a budget lets DOT design the production around it, rather than proposing an approach that has to be cut back afterwards. The bands on this page exist so that conversation can start from a realistic number.
